During
this year’s Long Night of Museums on 15 October, the EPO is to offer a
special children’s programme, guided tours of its art collection and the premiere
of a short film about the collection’s inspiring light art. An EPO expert will
also reveal how many patented technologies power a Lamborghini. The full programme
takes place in our Hackerbrücke building, which is open to the public for the
first time.

Our
programme aims to show how the EPO art collection engages with current issues
in the natural sciences, technology, environment and innovation. Most of the
art collected over the past four decades reflects the creativity that lies at
the heart of all technological innovation. Highlights include works by Tomás
Saraceno and Superflux, Tue Greenfort and Lilly Lulay, several of which are new
acquisitions on display for the first time.

Budding
creatives aged 6 to 14 can craft their own artworks at our Children’s Art Lab
from 14:00 hrs. The lab will provide a fun voyage of discovery through the
world of contemporary art, including encounters with the sometimes surprising materials
and artefacts that artists have used to turn their ideas into reality.

In
the evening, art experts offer an introduction to selected artworks from the
EPO art collection by several of today’s leading contemporary artists. There
will also be a premier of a German film with English subtitles, viewable any
time from 18:00 hrs onwards, in which the collection’s curator Dr Kristine
Schönert explores the interface between technology and art as seen in some of
the EPO’s striking works of light art.

Once again, the EPO is a main sponsor of this major event in
the city’s cultural calendar, with some 90 sites of art, culture, science and
technology participating. Live music, special tours and interactive happenings await
you all over the city, along with theatre performances, film screenings and
lectures.

From the Max-Planck Society and the Deutsches Museum to
Espace Louis Vuitton, most galleries in the prestigious Kunstareal, some of the
city’s churches and the University of Television and Film, there is something
for everyone this year. For more of a taste of what’s to come, check the city’s official
Long
Night of Museums Instagram account
, which
the EPO will take over on Thursday 13 October. Look out for our
special event posts then, in addition to those on all our usual channels.
